Northern lights

Despite all local predictions to the contrary tonight we got to see a great free firework show right above our hotel. It started small but grew into a green curtain across the sky slowly moving and shimmering. It lasted for a good fifteen minutes before a bank of cloud flowed in and blocked our view. I managed to capture a few fairly grainy shots before the camera showed an error code of FFR which I have never seen before but I figure means it had stopped working due to the FFReezing temperature. I don't know how cold it was but it was minus 10 in the day and with the clear skies it had certainly dropped way down from that.

Made it to the Arctic circle.

After a couple of days in Oslo which was great, especially the Viking ship museum, we have now flown up to Kirkeness just 16km from Murmansk and at almost 71 degrees north. Today visited the Ice Hotel which was very interesting but not sorry that we have a nice waym hotel room in the town to return to. Sleeping on a block of ice and paying £500 for the privilege doesn't work for us.

Sadly its snowing and not as cold as usual so chances of seeing the northern lights seem slim at best.
